Alejandro Aguilera (1964)
Aguilera was born in 1964 in Holguin, Cuba, and currently
lives and works in Atlanta.
He is an enormously talented Cuban-born Atlanta artist whose sheer variety
may have confused would-be collectors. A colorful public sculpture graces
the campus of Tri-Cities High School; a monochrome wall mural has been
a feature of Hammonds House for several years. Neither one resembles the
installation that Aguilera presented in the last Atlanta Biennial.
But one way or another, his recent work addresses the relationship he
has with his home roots and his multiple artistic expressions. This multifaceted
young artist is a true representative of contemporary artistic mediums,
options and conceptual depth and responsibility in their use.
