Maite Díaz (1963)

Maite Diaz was born in Cuba in 1963. She lives and works in Zaragoza, Spain.

This painter is the daughter of a sculptor and ceramist, and has incorporated in her work her family’s artistic roots, combining them with the influence of primitive art and Latin American cultures, as well as Arte Povera, and specific artists such as Manzoni, Paladino or Cucchi.

Spain has allowed her to admire the Romanic and classical painters, as well as works by Tapies and Sicilia. Her art work weaves threads of classical and contemporary influences, where the artist often interplays the concept of duality, the relation between the rational and the intuitive, culture and the nature.

Additionally, Maite Diaz uses symbolic Representations of feminine archetypes and often invokes the power of memory and its persistence in her search and research of her canvases. The artist uses a variety of techniques and processes, including ceramics and sculpture, as well as drawing and the painting.

Maite Diaz has had 7 individual exhibitions and has participated in 30 group shows. She has won four special international juried prizes and has a variety of honorable mentions. Her works are in collections throughout Cuba, Mexico, the U.S.A. and Spain.
